Support Tutoring

This one:one tutoring is designed to help students better understand their class work in one or more subjects. If your child is struggling to maintain a near passing grade, or if he or she is trying to maintain an A average, our professional tutors can be of help.

A student can be seen weekly, bi-weekly or on an as needed basis before tests. Support tutoring is quite effective in all academic subjects. Our tutors will teach content and related study strategies and can assist with homework. With our help students often thrive on the success of receiving an excellent test grade, and inspires them to excel in school.

Remedial Tutoring

This type of tutoring is designed to teach or strengthen skills in reading, math, spelling and writing. While remediation can be done in the middle school and high school, the best time to fill in gaps in fundamentals is in the primary grades. We use a variety of methods and materials depending on the learning style of the student. We teach the student reasoning skills and problem solving which are both most important to higher learning.

Our reading program teaches phonics, word analysis, and comprehension while incorporating an appreciation of literature early in the program. Our math program focuses on understanding the number system, and teaching the four fundamental operations of addition, subtraction multiplication and division as it applies to whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and percent, and measurement. Teaching reasoning skills, mental math, and problem solving are important.

Our remedial program is unique in that we work with the parents to teach them how to supplement their child's Adelphi tutoring sessions. Thus we create a more time and cost efficient program that brings the child up to grade level as quickly as possible.

Enrichment Tutoring

This type of tutoring is designed to encourage the student to go beyond what he/she is learning in class. We may encourage the student to study a subject on a higher level, study the subject in greater depth, or introduce an academic subject different from what he/she is learning in school. Extended reading, research and field trips might be part of such a program. Enrichment tutoring often develops a student's interest which can be pursued later in life.

Ronnie Silver has designed a unique study skills program for middle and high school students. This 20 hour course is linked directly to the student's school subjects. Students are taught organizational skills including time management, note-writing skills, specific study strategies and test taking strategies. Students are taught to use "Active vs. Passive" study techniques and self-testing strategies.
